Under instructions from the CFA, the Old Avoca Fire Station is to be auctioned. It is situated on a quarter acre corner block, one street behind High Street. A feature of Avoca since the early 1920's there are 2 main structures: the timber premises until recently housed the fire unit which exited via the front roller door - originally barn doors. The large office, kitchen and 2 toilets were added around 20 years ago. Dimensions of this building internally are approx 10m x 30m. The floor is cement slab and also Jarra timber, where volunteers sat in some comfort in front of an open fire (chimney still in place as is the pressed metal on the walls.) At the rear is the second structure: a galvanised shed - approx 11m x 8m on slab - which housed 2 fire trucks and equipment. There is a smaller tool shed and a water tank. Currently the antenna installation is in place.
It is not hard to visualise the volunteers in the old station - it holds a significant spot in the history of the town.
Inspection is by appointment - please contact agent for further details.
