Yultewirra' is a triumph of grand proportions.
If you could envisage a grand estate, a true family home of distinction: a secret garden sanctuary, a hidden oasis of calm: of children laughing, the clink of glasses, of joyous summertime gatherings, would it not appear as 'Yultewirra'?
A prominent Stirling residence, Yultewirra was meticulously crafted circa 1900, at the hands of James and Thomasina Corpe, who dreamed of a hillside respite from the relentless heat of the Adelaide Plains.
Of exquisite sandstone, the 450m2 property is a triumph of grand proportions: a wonderland of glorious space in which historic adornment and modern amenity sit seamlessly side by side.
Upon entry, there is an immediate appreciation of considerate design. An inspiring setting for effortless family living: an ambience that speaks of lifetime memoirs, of cherished moments, and of time spent together.
The reception hall, fabulously formal, with Oak flooring and rich mahogany panelled doors, draws in light from bevelled glass, illuminating the space in mellowly softness. To the right, a gracious sitting room of substantial size is blessed with 'curl-up' window seating and picture book views of the grounds, an oversized open fireplace, arched alcoves and elegant shutters.
Opposite, find a sense of stillness within the walls of the library room/study. Luxuriant, deep tones and a hint of mystique, form a space reserved for quiet contemplation, restful page turning or undisturbed work.
A wing to the south-east incorporates a generous double bedroom, plus the stunning master suite. Complete with an adjoining dressing room, open fire place, and a romantic outlook of roses: this is private retreat of serenity, for languorous repose and indulgence of the senses. The adjacent bathroom is a haven of soothing cream and blue, and features double pedestal basins and a shower alcove.
Two additional bedrooms are positioned across the hall, where you will also find access to the distinctive lower level. Descending into a fantastic space of flexibility: perhaps for use as a guest retreat, or theatre room: think evening drinks around a crackling fire, or balmy summer nights - French doors thrown open to a scented breeze. Discover, also, a classy cellar room, its unique flooring and modish lighting evoking the uber-cool mood of an urban basement wine bar.
The focal point of the home's interior is its casual central living hub. Designed around a Pauline Hurren conservatory extension, ensuring a generous drenching of sunshine: the space includes lounging and dining areas, a family bathroom, concealed laundry facilities, Miele kitchen, butlers pantry with cellar access, and fully operational staff bells.
The formal dining room, a cheerful meeting place for friends and family, merges indoor with out: French doors, and a striking outlook, entice you to brunch al fresco, or linger over long weekend lunches. In conjunction with the curving, all-weather verandah, this fluidity of open air space epitomizes hills living at it's finest - and is a pretty lovely way to spend a Sunday.
Within the extensive grounds, the converted coach house now accommodates space for two cars, a gardeners room, and an exceptional tennis pavilion: an all-seasons retreat with bi-fold doors, its own fireplace, and a panoramic vista across the fully fenced synthetic court. A double carport, full security, air conditioning, bore irrigation system, outdoor lighting, plus roof-top sprinklers are added conveniences.
It is, however, the gardens at Yultewirra that ignite magic: encircling the home with an intoxicating blend of vivid colour, heady scent, and whimsical romance. Abundant lushness and resplendent tall trees, provide contrast for delicate herbaceous borders, reflective pools, arboured walks and four exquisite rose gardens. Vast expanses of soft emerald lawn to roll on, a character playhouse, and swing set invite hours of childhood play, gleeful shriek
