Last Listing description (June 2015)

Situated in the picturesque heritage listed village of Rockley, a gentle twenty minutes drive south from Bathurst, iconic Abercrombie Hall was originally built as the Abercrombie Shire Council Chambers. Constructed of locally quarried, roughly hewn coarse grained rubble marble, Abercrombie Hall has been tastefully reconfigured as a characterful and comfortable home, making for a peaceful and dignified country retreat.
The modern kitchen includes a spacious walk-in pantry and storage space, originally the council strong room.
Capturing original features, Abercrombie Hall has generous formal and informal rooms with polished kauri floorboards.

14 high pressed metal ceilings and grand windows snapshotting 19th century architect Edward Gell s churches
There are four substantial bedrooms, one with an en suite.
Abercrombie Hall also boasts a large Tuscan style courtyard surrounded by an expansive lawned garden with established elms.
2 1/2 hrs drive from Sydney and Canberra.
For lovers of history, within the entrance foyer, a leadlight door dedicated to Prime Minister Ben Chifley, himself president of the Abercrombie Shire Council from 1937 to 1940, lights up at sundown. The Chamber s 1912 marble foundation stone, laid on the frontispiece of the building, lists its first Councillors. There the Abercrombie Shire Council Chambers clock, originally mounted on the northern wall of the chambers, is placed in his memory high upon the War Memorial.
