"We employed lots of natural materials in the house, from the stabilised earth which forms the thick walls, to high vaulted timber ceilings, a stone fireplace and polished concrete floors. Huge sliding Austrian windows in all three pavilions bring the outside indoors, creating a light airy space."

"Building on such a steep block had its own challenges," the owners continue, "but the problems presented by the slope of the land provided us with a unique home designed to fit its surroundings.

The beautiful stone fireplace with gas fire makes the room very cosy, while the polished concrete floor and timber ceiling create a feeling of warmth."

"The bridge from the top level of the house to the street is a wonderfully unique feature, creating both a sense of distance from and connection to the road."
