The Cape Constructions (Charles Grist) purposely designed beach house was completed in October 2014 and is constructed from materials that are quintessentially Dunsborough. The Colorbond, large timber decks and locally crafted stone feature walls built from Wildwood stone sit in situ to create a magical sense of place and seamlessly bring the surrounding environment inside in a most propitious way.

Contemporary in design, built on a timeless Beach House footprint, the internal aspects of the house splice effortlessly together to create a luxurious yet subtle and low-key living space. The internal living area whilst approximately 150sqm provides perfect accommodation, with the well protected and oriented deck area virtually doubling the living area for all but the extremes of winter. The oversized stone fireplace sends this space to another level again and has the added advantage of a large adjustable cooking grill.

The design incorporates a self-contained studio that sits under the main house with both areas accessed off ground level but at different ends of the house. The queen size bed sits proudly on a pedestal with a kitchenette incorporating a sink, bar fridge, microwave and built-in cupboards and shelving. The bathroom is spectacularly simple, built from corrugated tin with a separate shower recess/rain head shower and W/C vanity. With direct access to an outside private north facing stone courtyard, the same bushland outlook is maintained.

The main house on the top level incorporates the large sheltered deck area and stone fireplace. This area opens seamlessly to the open plan kitchen/living/dining area that has been orientated to enjoy beautiful northerly sun aspects and bushland views from large expanse of glass doors incorporating louvres to achieve cross airflow ventilation. The kitchen boasts Caesarstone benchtops, Asko gas hot plate and oven, Bosch stainless steel dishwasher and 1 1/2 bowl sink with large fridge recess.

There is a bar/drinks utility space recessed in adjacent to the kitchen that also contains a large built-in linen cupboard.

The master suite enjoys ocean views, a ceiling fan, built-in robes and wide open shelving with direct access to the front deck and is serviced by a bathroom with WC, frameless glass shower recess and vanity. The second bedroom is a mirror of the main bedroom with an added long narrow window that gives a lovely view to native gardens and raised herb garden beds.

There is a large office/workroom towards the rear of the house and has large sliding glass doors that lead to the main deck.

The second bathroom is incorporated into the laundry where there is a stone built-in trough with broom and storage cupboards plus a vanity, WC and frameless glass shower recess.
