HISTORIC PROPERTY ON 3 ACRES
Stunning 'Pinehaven Manor', PINEHAVEN being the historic name, is a Federation-style house. Set on approx 3 acres of manicured grounds extending down to the tide line. Built in 1908, this home has been lovingly restored to it's former glory. Distinctive features of Pinehaven Manor include a high pitched roof, which incorporates gables, chimneys and verandahs. The floor was restored with jarrah timber which was then polished in accordance with the times. Hand etched verandah posts are not only original but show a compulsion to detail that has lasted for over 100 years. There is a drawing room to the left as we enter, and opens to the dining room used for larger family celebrations. The ceilings are the original ones, of patterned pressed metal. Metal ceilings were made by Wunderlich and patterns are seen in illustrations from a Wunderlich publication of 1910.
The bay windows feature an outlook to the beautiful garden and the view to the sea and the gazebo. All windows were made of red cedar and were double hung with locks and catches in various stages of disrepair. Most rooms have the original fireplaces with hand painted tiles on the hearth. The dado and skirting boards are red cedar that was then stained to emulate the fashion of the time. The frame of the old house is black wood and is said to have been milled from the trees on Pinehaven Farm. Ceiling roses and cornices adorn the home. The hardware on the doors is mostly decorated copper and is original. The fingerplates and doorknobs were varnished and then painted. As the discerning visitor wanders the gardens of Pinehaven Manor they will have no trouble finding relics of an earlier age. The hydrangeas, old roses, arum lilies, and holly are evident. There is the old well that provided water for the early occupants and the chimney, constructed of hand made bricks, left as a monument to the shed the brothers lived in as they began the construction of Pinehaven Manor. Rectangular beds filled with vegetables, flowers in a cutting garden and fruit trees help to complete the picture of a restored Federation garden. Gravel paths connect the arbour covered in wisteria, and the gazebo that provides a quiet retreat with the 180 degree sea view. Dormant bulbs bloomed and betrayed the long lost garden beds of the original home. PINEHAVEN was surely named as pines and cypresses dotted around a larger area than the garden of to-day encompasses. There is a large amount of shedding and a double garage with remote roller door. Truly a wonderful experience and very desirable property to own.
