Last Listing description (September 2020)

With the discovery of Gold in the 1850s Melbourne became one of the wealthiest destinations in the world. As a consequence of this new found wealth, land was set aside in many locations for fine public gardens. With Kilmore a major stopover for those travelling to the goldfields, a site was set aside for the Kilmore Botanic Gardens, this site is now the location of the The Gardens Estate.
The original gardens unfortunately lacked the success of other similar projects due to lack of maintenance and the site became farm land in 1927, with the Clancy family farming it for generations.
In showing respect for the early foresight of the original Melbourne Botanic Gardens Directors, the early benefactors in Baron Von Mueller and William Guilfoyle have had streets named in their honour. Others have been named to acknowledge local flora and fauna - Skink Retreat and Obliqua Court are noted as examples.

The Gardens is a site steeped in history, but today you can take advantage of generous sized allotments, native reserves, the original dam and feature windmill as centerpieces and views to the surrounding district that will be the envy of many. A short walk to Kilmore Golf Course, Cricket Club, the Kilmore Racecourse and Hospital, the location is exceptional.
The Gardens are set to be the new jewel in the crown of Kilmore's residential development, with the added benefit of a well planned lifestyle with environmental credentials.
