Historical records disclose this cottage was built in 1854 and the granite steps leading up to the front verandah were built by William Fiddes, a respected stone mason who was commissioned to build a number of Beechworths most prominent stone buildings.
Incredibly, this cottage is in almost original condition, retaining its weatherboards, dado panelling and coffered ceilings, and even hand made nails in sections. The windows are also original such that etched on one window pane is G King, who owned the cottage in 1858.

As you would expect of the era, this cottage is charming, beginning with the red paved brick pathway and the granite steps leading up to the front verandah, which features a decorative cast iron frieze. The front verandah provides you with a very quaint place to sit and enjoy the garden and the views across to the National Park. The charm continues, as you step through the original front entrance door you find yourself in the cosy lounge room with a choice of gorgeous small leadlight doors to choose from. There is a kitchen/dining room, the focal point of which is the old wood combustion oven, the main bedroom and the cosy library/study/formal dining and through to the rear verandah which has a small storage room. To safeguard the integrity of the cottage, a freestanding timber unit was built at the rear providing for 2 bedrooms and a laundry/bathroom. The rear yard also has lovely views of the National Park and is a very private place to relax and enjoy the garden. There is also a carport, garage and garden shed. Finally, this property boasts a wonderful central location.
