The Deck House was conceived by award winning Sydney architect James Hadaway and is located an easy scenic 50 minute drive south of Hobart at Port Huon. The solar hotwater system with an efficient heat pump back up heats the potable water and supplies the hot water for the hydronic underfloor heating system. The underfloor heating systems allows thermostatically controlled heating to all living and bedroom areas. The waste water system is an Australian invention by Biolytix. It is essentially a tank that houses a worm farm. The purified waste water is when pumped in underground pipes into the garden to irrigate it.Local timber (Tasmanian Oak) are used for flooring, internal trims and 3 of the four external walls. The external finish is natural oil to the timber and paint to the forth wall which is a cement sheet panel system by CSR. The internal joinery is hoop pine plywood. All appliances and light fittings are low energy users. The present owners have Development Approval from the Huon Valley Council for a winery, vineyard, main residence and two holiday houses, the Deck House already completed.
