The floorplan was opened up around the kitchen area to make it flow better to suit open plan living. Most internal doors have been stripped back to glorious originals. Set up your home office in the external studio/office or have it as extra storage.
HISTORY:
Altmore was built circa 1890 on a land grant that was given to a Mr John Pooler. The land originally was all owned by the Panninher tribe of Aborigines but in 1846, this piece of land was sold by John Pooler to William Wright who was a plasterer and storekeeper.
Interestingly there is a newspaper article dating from 1853 implicating John Pooler as harbouring a transported offender ( I wonder where he hid here?). There is no doubt that Altmore, 17 William Street has a fascinating history and is a true survivor in this age of build.
Altmore is not just a keeper but a stayer and who ever next owns her will be blessed with both her charm and history!
In 1887 William Wright passed away and Altmore was left to his son Henry but in 1912 the same year the Titanic set sail, Henry passed away Intestate, however there was good news for his widow Vyhbeline Adelaid Wright, as in January 1913 she was granted ownership of Altmore, there is a lot more history to this beautiful home which will be available to the fortunate next owner!
