Last Listing description (February 2014)

GUYS COTTAGE a historical Victorian Georgian cottage.
Positioned on a pretty 1/4 acre parcel of land overlooking the country side sit's this charming home which from the minute you arrive, beckons you inside. Starting with street appeal that begins at the picket fence, followed by beautiful gardens and then, the star, the cottage itself with it's beautiful front verandah and front steps leading up to the front door boasting detailed stained glass, you will be charmed instantly by this circa 1876 cottage.
Being one of the oldest if not 'the oldest' homes in Cygnet, Guy's Cottage retains many of its original features including external oak walls, hand split oak floor boards and original fireplaces. The home had a large kitchen added after WWI - including a wood fired stove which remains and is still operational today. Of course this area has since been renovated and offers a great deal of space as a large eat-kitchen.

The property was built by William Guy, a farmer, when he and his wife Catherine (Royston Family, fruit growers) relocated to Cygnet from Hobart in 1858. Between Catherine and William they owned some 78 acres on the opposite side of the road and Guy's Road was named as an access road to their properties. William Guy lived from 1810-1880 and during this time he and Catherine had ten children of which only one boy and five girls survived. The property was a working orchard and in 1901 was sold by William Guy (junior) to Thomas Charles Wills. It was then occupied by the Wills Family until the 1970's.
There are many windows from which to enjoy views of mountains, neighbouring pasture and bush. This home offers a quiet picturesque country lifestyle whilst being only a stone's throw from Cygnet and an easy 45 minute drive to Hobart itself.
With three gorgeous bedrooms plus a studio with its own toilet which lends itself as a fourth bedroom, home office or guest accommodation, the layout is flexible. The living areas are divine with wood heaters, views, neutral tones and plenty of sunshine. The bathroom offers a shower over the bath tub, a toilet and accommodates laundry appliances.
Outside there is a character filled lock up garage, a large storage room, chook pen, wood shed, many water tanks with beautiful gardens everywhere linked by beautifully laid out pathways. A child's secret garden or a keen gardening adult's paradise.
There's alot to love about this gorgeous property. Be quick, this little piece of Tasmanian History is up for grabs and won't last long.
