Last Listing description (February 2021)

This stunning 1800's stone cottage is full of all the character and charm that you'd expect from this era, plus so much more! Nestled elevated and proud on an exuberant 10 acres of land this is an opportunity not to miss.

Martha Whitehead travelled to Australia arriving in Risdon Cove in 1803 aged 17. At this time, she was Mistress to Lieutenant John Bowen. Historical notes indicate that she was helped ashore by Lieutenant Bowens crew and was in her opinion the first British woman to set foot in Tasmania. Martha was an independent farmer and later married Andrew Whitehead and together they were given a 200-acre land grant that covered the area adjoining 620 Briggs Road. Andrews death is noted in 1832. Four years later in 1836 the Brighton History Book states that she married Police Clerk Bernard Williamson and in this year Martha and Bernard built "The Cottage".

You're welcomed by a stunning landscaped garden with hidden treasures around every corner. The most beautiful veranda sits at the front of The Cottage capturing suburban views and beyond, perfect for reading the paper, a good book or just enjoying your morning cuppa.

Your main entry into The Cottage is via the sitting room; kept cosy and warm with the original fire place. Polished floor boards under foot are low maintenance with a striking look.
The master suit follows with generous size and style.

The kitchen has been modernized with new countertops, recycled timber cabinetry and black subway tiles to add the wow factor. There is also a second fire place. Open plan to the dining room, this magical zone has a large window taking in more spectacular views.

The bathroom too has received an overhaul with a new shower, toilet and tiling.

With a total renovation completed, no expense has been spared! The upgrades also include: New gravel driveway, painted inside and out, upgraded metre box, new fencing and farm gates, new light fittings, heater and kitchen appliances.

But wait there's more! Outside is a barn with storage and numerous animal pens plus a paddock already fenced and gated ready for livestock.

First home buyers, investors and those wanting a peaceful sanctuary that this idyllic lifestyle property has to offer must be quick.. The Cottage is priced to sell!
