The Cottage Residence is situated on an 1811m2 allotment and was subdivided in 1983 from the original parcel of land granted to Captain D Arcy Wentworth in 1833. D Arcy was notably the first Australian born Commissioned Officer in the British Army and was the brother of the noted explorer, William Wentworth, who discovered a track through the Blue Mountains.
After receiving his land grant, D Arcy went on to build a two storey Georgian stone residence, known as Wentworth House, and numerous out buildings, one of which now forms part of the current cottage.
