Last Listing description (August 2018)

St Aidans Church has served the community of Saddleworth across three centuries . Built in 1894 and deconsecrated in 2018 this building has stood sentinel over the community for nearly 125 years. Now with little community use the church is now seeking its new life.
Located in the township of Saddleworth on the Barrier Highway one of the main arterial roads linking the East to Adelaide and beyond. The church is set back from the road on a site of approximately 3600 m2 there is much to offer with this truly unique offering. This property opens up many opportunities from residential, guest accommodation to a restaurant (subject to consents). This is truly a blank canvas from which to build your dream.
Constructed from local stone gathered from neighbouring farms in the Victorian Gothic style with high walls, solid feature timber rafters and the vaulted timber ceilings which invoke craftsmanship that we don t see today. Very little has changed other than the introduction of electric lights. The beautiful and original stained-glass windows are truly a feature of this offering and the bell remains with the property.

The church has a footprint of some 130 m2 and comprises the bell tower /entry opening to the church, the side transepts raised sanctuary (altar) and the vestry. The floorplan is symmetrical in its layout and with the wall and ceiling height would lend itself to further development including a mezzanine floor.
What a unique piece of South Australian History.
