C1913 CHARACTER VILLA ON THE COASTAL STRIP
AUCTION SUNDAY 25TH SEPT AT 12PM (USP); CONTACT RAE O'NEILL/ALEX OUWENS FOR FURTHER DETAILS. WHEN WE CAME HERE WITH OUR THREE KIDS IN THE MID SEVENTIES WE HAD SPENT SEVERAL YEARS LIVING IN THE COUNTRY. THE IDEA OF LIVING IN A SEA OF SUBURBAN HOUSES DID NOT APPEAL, WE WANTED A PLACE WHICH OFFERED OPEN SKIES AND CLEAR AIR. RALSTON STREET HAS GIVEN US THAT MANY TIMES OVER. THE SAFE, CLEAN BEACH AT THE END OF THE STREET GAVE ALL OF US A WONDERFUL PLACE TO SWIM, SAIL AND WALK. YOU TAKE SUNSHINE FOR GRANTED AT LARGS; I SPENT A FEW YEARS WORKING IN THE EASTERN SUBURBS AND I BECAME USED TO EXCHANGING THE SUN OF HOME FOR THE COLD MISTS OF THE FOOTHILLS. WHEN WE BOUGHT NUMBER 35 WE DID NOT REALISE THAT WE WERE BUYING A TREASURED NORTHERN ASPECT. WE HAVE SPENT 35 YEARS ENJOYING WARM SUNFILLED DAYS IN OUR GENUINE SUN ROOM. IT'S A GREAT LOCATION. BIRDS ARE OUR CONSTANT COMPANIONS AND AT NIGHT YOU CAN HEAR THE WAVES. DESPITE BEING BETWEEN TWO MAJOR ROADS THERE IS AN ATMOSPHERE OF PEACE AND CONTENT. THE NEIGHBOURS ARE GREAT, WARM AND FRIENDLY BUT NOT INTRUSIVE. OVER THE YEARS THERE HAVE BEEN MANY POSITIVE CHANGES IN THIS AREA OF ADELAIDE. SEMAPHORE ROAD HAS BECOME ONE OF THE TOP PLACES IN ADELAIDE FOR EATING OUT. THE PORT OFFERS A RANGE OF GOOD BASIC SHOPPING, AND EVERYTHING HERE IS CHEAPER THAN 'ON THE OTHER SIDE'. THE LOCAL PRIMARY SCHOOL IS VERY GOOD AND THERE ARE EXCELLENT MEDICAL SERVICES, WITH THE QEH ONLY 15 MINUTES AWAY. DESPITE THE GROWTH IN THE AREA PORT ROAD REMAINS ONE OF THE BEST ACCESS ROADS TO THE CITY; ADELAIDE IS STILL REACHABLE INSIDE HALF AN HOUR AT ALMOST ANY TIME OF THE DAY. BUT IF YOU DON'T NEED TO DRIVE THE TRAIN IS ONLY 7 MINUTES WALK AWAY - 20 MINUTES TO ADELAIDE. OVER THE YEARS WE HAVE INVESTED HEAVILY IN THIS HOME. WE PUT THE SUN ROOM ON AND OPENED UP THE KITCHEN DINING AREA WE WORE OUT ONE SOLAR HOT WATER SERVICE AND REPLACED IT LAST YEAR. A FEW YEARS AGO WE INSTALLED A 1.5 MEG SOLAR POWER ARRAY AND NOW GET ALL OUR POWER FREE WITH A PROFIT WHICH PAYS OFF MOST OF THE GAS BILLS. OUR LAWN DID NOT SURVIVE THE DROUGHT AND SO THE GARDEN IS NOW PLANTED OUT IN ARID ZONE PLANTS WITH SOME FRUIT TREES IN THE SIDE GARDEN. SOME YEARS AGO WE MODERNISED THE BATHROOM. IT'S BEEN A WONDERFUL HOME FOR US AND OUR KIDS. WE HOPE THE NEW OWNERS FIND IT AS SATISFYING AS WE HAVE. HOWARD AND JEAN GROOME AUGUST 2011 ...NEED WE SAY MORE
