Last Listing description (February 2022)

Many years of dedicated ingenuity has transformed a symmetrical 4 room cottage circa 1850 into a 21st Century stone homestead, built with great care, sympathetic style, and uncompromised integrity.

The exacting building standards embrace olde world proportion, lofty ceilings and high gable roof. The return verandah further 'uplifts' the universal appeal of the classic Australian Colonial Homestead.

Kanmantoo stone, some 100+ tonne and being predominately 8" to 9" thick has been used to compliment the local stone. All outside doors and windows have been recycled, sympathetically restored and placed; taken from three mansions (many decades ago), at Fullarton, Kensington & Glen Osmond.

The rooms of the original home still offer pressed metal ceilings and 18" thick walls. Today disposed as three bedrooms (of the 5 bedrooms), original hallway entrance and a formal dining room (the original kitchen), now with ornate timber fireplace surround, Victorian metal grate and glazed tiling. There is also the original fireplace in one of the front bedrooms.

The kitchen family area features a wide Cedar shingled (diamond style glass panels), all intelligently embraced by a very wide bay window, thus enhancing light and wonderful distant rural views.

The modern kitchen offers the reconditioned Stanley wood oven, a new Euro 5 hot plate gas stove and oven together with a Westinghouse extractor fan. The hand-crafted kitchen has been made from Blackwood timber and black granite bench tops. There is also the pantry cupboard and a hand-crafted timber fireplace surround made from old recycled Oregon. The views from the kitchen are also very special, capturing the immediate garden area.

The main bathroom is only 12 months old and is distinctively French Provincial, deep claw feet bath, shower, double bowl vanity with black granite top and an antique window. The adjoining laundry also features the diamond style shingled door.

Today the leadlight surround front door opens into the entrance hallway and leads to two more bedrooms on either side. One of which is the very spacious master bedroom, complete with ensuite.

The hallway then leads to the huge light & bright family room, also following the theme with the Cedar shingled diamond style glass panels, Victorian style ceiling cornicing and ceiling roses. Notably all architraves and skirtings are made from old Baltic Pine.

Finally, a hardwood and pine staircase which was salvaged from an old Flour Mill. The upstairs room could quite easily be adapted as another bedroom or indeed a studio. Currently used as an office, complete with a bench seat and once again a wonderful outlook. The high gable roof space can also be accessed from this room.

The circa 1940's double brick garage and workshop (19.7m x 8.0m) has one small room with a fireplace, this provided accommodation for a POW (during WWII), quite common on farms back then, usually Italians, many of whom came back after the war to settle down with their new bride/families. The main electrical board offers 3 phase power and there is a sub-board on the house. This area also has a walled off section for the preparation and bottling of Olive Oil, Council approved. There is also a lean-to area.

There is a 40 ft shipping container next to the barn, which remains with the property sale, further up nearby a three-sided woodshed and machinery yard. The cattle yards are complimented with runs and yards for ease of one-person handling cattle/stock. There is also an in-built cattle crush and loading ramp. Finally, the 12m x 6m shearing shed (renovated with flooring from an old Government style education building) complete with built-in bar, pot belly stove and outside balcony, used in the past for many family/friends 'social functions'. The nearby walkway onto the dam opens further opportunity for family picnics, complemented by a lovely old chestnut tree next to the dam (abundance of yabbies).

A truly remarkable property, totally complete with nothing further to be done. Just 20 minutes from the Tea Tree Plaza, close to the Barossa and central to all desirable destinations. Furthermore, well located on a quiet no through road, rich with history and agriculture, a lifestyle without compromise.

From the moment you enter the 350 meter private driveway, the authenticity of the Australian Colonial Homestead totally embraces your senses, not unlike a remarkable framed Masterpiece painting!
