The Eco Tourist Park will utilise a vacant block of land with dilapidated elements and weeds. The park seeks to minimise its physical footprint on the land whilst improving the environmental amenity through use of landscaping, sustainable design initiatives and improved land management practise. Sustainable initiatives include reuse of captured stormwater and grey water, landscaping including revegetation that contributes positively to the surrounding environment, solar power and various other methods to be implemented. It will be done in conjunction with the Department of Environment and Water (DEW) to preserve the integrity of the adjacent Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary (AIBS).
The building elements are, subject to Council consent, they will be highly efficient self-supporting and self-insulated building panels which will not require deep concrete footings and through the colour scheme to be adopted will blend into the surrounding natural environment and will look solid and durable rather than cheap and flimsy.
The owner is committed to maintaining ongoing communication with relevant environmental agencies to ensure the proposed eco tourist park is developed in a coordinated manner and supports one of the key objectives of the AIBS which is to facilitate the development of local tourism in terms of visitations, facilities and attractions.
