Last Listing description (July 2011)

Wheelwright's Cottage - Circa 1930
Years ago, this charming old cottage was a workshop for the local Wheelwright, the artisan who created, or wrought, wheels. Wheelwrighting was an exacting profession, requiring a high degree of expertise and a deep knowledge of wood in order to build wheels that would last under heavy loads and on rough terrain. The Wheelwright would work closely with the Blacksmith, whose job it was to form and fit the iron hoop which bound the wheel together.
Today the workshop has been converted into an extremely spacious main bedroom with French doors leading to a private seating area. Whatever would they have thought about that in the 1930's?

The cottage is most appealing from the road, with a pretty bullnose verandah
creating shade from the afternoon sun.
Beautiful polished floors enhance the homely feel. The living and dining rooms have been opened up to create a more modern space and both rooms can now benefit from the warmth of the open fireplace.
The kitchen is neat and tidy and still features an old range style cooker. The bathroom has a claw foot bath with overhead shower, vanity and loo.
Wheelwrights cottage sits on a large corner block and is just a short 5 minute drive to nearby Woodside or Lobethal.
