Ready to put in some hard yards and reap the rewards?

A charming example of a c1910 William Mallyon architecturally designed church. This renowned iconic person has designed more Anglican churches in South Australia than any other.

William Mallyon was born in 1850 and lived in the mid north of South Australia from 1874 to 1916. Working after hours (he was a Bank Manager) without training or payment, the pious and civic minded Mallyon planned and specified the construction of 26 or so Anglican churches around South Australia, many examples of which are still standing proudly today.

The former St Mary Magdalene's Church's foundation stone was laid by the Right Reverend A Nutter Thomas, Bishop of Adelaide on April 8th, 1910. This former church is built of ironstone with red brick dressings and matching attached vestibule entrance. The roof is gable form and the ridge vents have Lancet head openings. There are timber framed windows with leadlight glass and an imposing arched entrance with double timber doors. The floor and ceiling lining are Baltic pine, with quasi Hammer-Beam Featured Timber Roof Trusses.

The property is on an appealing allotment size of 1,012 sqm (approx.) and offers glorious uninterrupted views of the plains from the Western side.

Brinkworth is a town in the mid north of SA with a population of approx. 400. It is part of the Clare Valley Wine Region and has easy access to Clare. Well known for its farming; wheat, barley, oats, canola, faba beans and sheep, it is just 31kms north west of the regional centre of Clare. It was first settled in the 1860's and the town laid out in 1892. Brinkworth is named after the early land owner, George Brinkworth.

This little town is heritage and community proud, and there are plenty of local services including a kindergarten, public primary school (and a school bus to Clare for secondary school and private primary school), a community garden, community swimming pool, a gym, the Junction Hotel, Ambulance (shared with Snowtown), Country Fire Service Station, a Bowling Club, Post Office, Caravan and RV park, the Recreation Grounds (Oval for cricket & football, tennis & netball courts with amenities for the complex), a soon to re-open caf, NBN, Peppertree Trail (for walking, running, cycling, wheelchair use), Police Station, Country Women's Association, Memorial Hall, Book & Magazine Swap in the main street, Brinkworth Museum & History group, Community Bus (approved and awaiting its arrival), and even its own Community Group known as The Black & White Rag (now in colour) with news and reports issued via post office boxes and distribution at the commencement of the month- free!

A most affordable and appealing opportunity presents itself here, whether it's for owner occupation and to become a member of this thriving and proud community, for a weekender, or for holiday accommodation. This location is ideally placed for the ever popular Clare Valley and its wine & gourmet delights, as well as the Riesling Trail & historic sites. There is easy access to the Yorke Peninsula, the Mid North & Far North & and it is the gateway to SA's spectacular Flinders Ranges.

There is a finite number of these very precious and charming little churches scattered throughout the mid north, a throwback to the olden days (before cars!) where churches anchored their rural communities and acted as not only a place of worship, but a place to meet one's neighbours and share a story or two. Secure your piece of precious South Australian history.historical buildings such as this in age, architecture, design, and construction are becoming lost treasures."
