Last Listing description (July 2014)

Sing the praises of this remarkable cottage renovation.
The owners describe it as their little piece of heaven in the Barossa and buyers will quickly agree. Windsong' cottage is a remarkable achievement in pure joy as this extensive renovation has spared no compromise in creating a truly unique residence in one of the most beautiful Barossa settings imaginable.
Originally part of a much larger parcel of vineyard land at Bethany, an acre block on one corner was divided from the main property many years ago when the vigneron needed funds to buy a piece of farm equipment. That decision allowed a cottage to be built with spectacular cinematic views over picturesque vines set against a backdrop of the Barossa ranges. It sounds isolated and remote but the other surprising fact is that all this exists just minutes from Tanunda township with easy access to the Rex Centre and Faith College.

A two storey cottage was constructed from mudbricks on the site in the 1980's but it failed to realise the property's full potential. Only the vision and determination of the current owners has been able to take the bones of this first structure and transform it into the dream that it is today.
Every aspect of this property is perfection. From the immaculate lawns and garden beds that entice the visitor along the driveway and down the paved steps to the front door, through to the loving attention to detail every fixture and fitting throughout the interior. The quality is evident.
The main cottage has three bedrooms and two new bathrooms but there is also a separate laundry and third bathroom in a mini' cottage adjacent the kitchen and entertaining area. The floor plan has great flexibility and versatility, so it must be seen to appreciate the living space on offer.
The original kitchen was very dark due to the abundance of wood (floor, ceiling, venetian blinds, furniture and the colour of the mud brick walls). Today it is light and bright with a dcor that is the perfect compromise between rustic charm and modern efficiency. It has a white-washed French provincial feel that could be showcased in the best country style magazine.
Every aspect of this lovely kitchen has been thoughtfully considered, from the storage space to the quality appliances. The tiled splash-back behind the cook top was purchased from an artisan in England and the beautiful and intricately laid timber floor was restored by local tradespeople. A combustion heater warms not only the kitchen but most of the house in winter.
There is a stylish lounge room with a large picture window designed to bring the outside in and take full advantage of the outlook.
Outside, you'll feel like you've arrived at a resort, with a terraced rear yard built for entertaining and relaxation. The pergola over the outdoor dining table has been planted with climbing vines to provide a cool and shady canopy in summer months, with the feel of a Tuscan villa in the Mediterranean. The immaculate front lawns are perfect but will never need mowing as they are actually created from high quality artificial turf. You have only to blower-vac the falling leaves away in autumn. The planted garden beds feature many native plants chosen for their durability and low water needs.
The tree planted adjacent the entry gate, at the northern end of the first lawn, is a Chinese Maple and promises to be a beautiful feature in the years to come. Known by the current owners as Hilda's Tree', it will grow to around 10 metres tall and provide a canopy of summer shade.
The property's original corrugated iron garage was demolished and replaced with a huge purpose-built four bay shed. It must be said that this shed is now every man's dream; especially a man with a passion for motor racing or motor cars, as does the current owner. Meticulously presented and with a cement floor especially sealed with epoxy so as not to absorb any oil stains, it is fitted with four remote controlled roller doors. There is no shortage of power points so the shed has been versatile enough to serve as an exterior office space. It has also been wired for surround sound, opening further possibilities for entertaining or just to allow you to indulge in listening to music or sport while working in the shed.
Dual lockable storage sheds are located on the northern and eastern side of the garage. Operationally, everything has been considered, from storage needs to rainwater provision, gas, heating and cooling.
At the southern end of the home, a wide paved patio can be used as another entertaining area or for children's play, overlooking ample land that could still be developed. There is plenty of scope to add a tennis court, swimming pool, play lawn or further garden beds.
The songs of the birdlife all around gave this cottage its name, and you'll be singing its praises too.
