Auburn. Often considered the Gateway to the Clare Valley, Auburn is on the Horrocks Highway, approximately 111 kilometres from the Adelaide CBD and 25 kilometres south of the rural heart of the Mid North, the township of Clare.
First known exploration and discovery of Auburn was in 1839, and consequently now has many historical buildings and homes that are simply charming.
The town is now a very popular tourist destination, with a number of local winery cellar doors and bed and breakfast accommodation choices. Auburn is serviced by a pub and several cafes, galleries, roadhouse, bike hire and internet cafe, a post office, hairdresser, Primary School, CFS station, CWA and a number of other services. The Auburn oval hosts sporting facilities for cricket, bowls and netball and is also the location of a small, self-contained caravan park.
Auburn is the birthplace of Australian poet, C. J. Dennis (born 1876), and also Australian cricketer and Australian Rules football player, Ernie Jones (born 1869).
