Would you like to own a piece of our local history?
This restored historic homestead could be yours.
Built by Jasper Pridham circa 1900 from reclaimed henpecked stone collected from the demolition of the chimney at the Whites Valley Flour Mill, as well as limestone ballast from the old flour store in Port Willunga.
Then the current owners bought it in 2003 and began the task of restoring this grand old lady to her former glory.
They have fully rewired and replumbed the house and added ducted reverse cycle air conditioning.
The four marble fireplaces are all operating and there is a large woodshed.
Restoration of the original Baltic Pine floorboards was a major task, as well as repairing and plastering the walls before repainting.
The ornate pressed metal ceilings are original, and in their day, were quite a status symbol. The ceiling height is approximately 3.5 metres, or 11ft 6inches.
Other original features are the decorative friezes and corbels, leadlight, cast iron veranda posts, French doors, sash windows, slate hearths and thresholds.
The Grand Formal Dining Room features magnificent window drapes to the bay window, and could be used as an opulent master bedroom with fireplace and French doors.
There is also a Formal Sitting Room, with a fireplace, which could be a fourth bedroom if it is not required as a second living area.
There are two further king size bedrooms located either side of the gorgeous bathroom. Tiled to the ceiling, it features a beautiful pedestal basin and roll top claw foot bath tub with porcelain finish. There are two very big linen cupboards.
In excess of 30 square metres is the Family room or Billiards room, which currently contains a full size pool table and also features a stunning fireplace.
Located next to the Family room is the open plan kitchen and dining room. This modern kitchen is classic in style to blend seamlessly with the age of the building. With ample cupboards, a dishwasher and 900mm convection oven, the star of the kitchen is the Gaggenau cooking centre, with hot stone barbecue, deep fryer, and ceramic cook top, located where an old wood burning stove once stood.
The original free-standing wash house has been converted into a modern laundry room, and there is also a cellar under the back section of the house, ideal for extra storage, or indeed for your wine collection!
Surrounded by sweeping lawns, shade trees and easy care gardens, the beautiful residence is set well back from the street, giving it a private and secluded feel.
It is like stepping back into another world.
Naturally there is always ongoing maintenance to be done with these old homes, and you might also want to give the property a whole new look. Local Heritage Listing states that "The external form, original materials and details of the house should be retained." However, you could redecorate in the Hamptons Style, for example.
