We have a beautiful timber pole home situated on 1.79 ha of bush, half way down a dead end road on the 'air conditioned' Atherton Tablelands (above Cairns) in far north Queensland. The view from the verandah is one of bush and you can hear the birds and the trickle of the stream that runs across the corner of the block.
The house is environmentally friendly, and is stand alone solar powered, has a composting toilet and rain water tanks.
You enter at ground level but then the front, with the verandah, is 5 meters above ground, so it is really a tree house! The house has 1 and 1/2 floors and is finished throughout with recycled and sustainable harvested timber.
Upstairs it has 1 bedroom with built ins, a combined utility room/office, a separate toilet and bathroom with a cast iron bath. An open living floor plan combines the living and dining areas. The sun room is a great area for friends to sit and chat and enjoy the warmth of the sun while you cook.
There is also a second living area (granny flat) downstairs, accessed externally with a bedroom, lounge and verandah and a shower room, perfect for visiting relatives and guests.
Regardless of your position within the house, natural light streams through one of many windows and allows for beautiful scenic views of the surrounding bush.
This wonderful house gives feelings of forest isolation, however it is only 4 minutes from the local Roadhouse, offering fuel, takeaway food, and basic groceries. A further 5 minutes and you find yourself in the Village of Herberton; a small country town offering all the necessities along with tourist attractions, two hotels, and even a library.
Another 18 mins takes you to Atherton a major regional town will all the services, shops (both chain and individual) hotels, Doctors, Dentists, library and pool. Of course if you want to go to Cairns it is less than 2 hours drive away.
