La Macelleria Gelateria West End
West End locals lost the plot with excitement when La Macelleria Gelateria opened on Montague Road in the latter half of 2017, rejoicing at the fact that Brisbane s best gelato was within closer reach. Owner Matteo Zini brought his gelato concept south of the river to offer traditional gelato made on site daily. La Macelleria focuses on authenticity the store is fitted out with the trademark see-through gelato lab, complete with a vertical gelato machine which is perfect for creating traditional, Italian-style gelato. The store also offers Italian-style coffee, cakes, gelato sticks and gelato sandwiches and experiments with different flavours to keep things fresh and interesting, on top of current top sellers including salted caramel, dark chocolate, bacio (chocolate hazelnut) and pistachio. The store will also hold gelato making workshops to teach locals how the best gelato is made.
Lupa Pizza Bar
Lupa Pizza Bar owners Valentina Vigni and Andrea Contin brought their authentic, Roman-style pizza with matched Italian wines and beers to Light + Co in September 2017. The couple (who grew up in Italy) consulted with one of the country s best Roman pizza experts, Marco Lungo, to introduce a new style of pizza to Brisbane. The duo decided to place an emphasis on traditional Roman-inspired pizzas as they are much lighter and healthier, using a preparation method that leaves the dough to rest for up to 72 hours. Lupa Pizza Bar offers a full dining experience, opening from lunch until late every night (hello, cravings after dark). The ingredients are fresh, organic and sourced both locally and from Italy to add to the atmosphere and experience, while the wines have been sourced especially to suit the light and crispy nature of the Roman-style pizzas. Throw some Italian craft beer, natural aperitifs, cheese and salumi boards and black coffee into the mix and you ve got yourself a fantastic dining destination.
