'Assmanshausen' is a beautiful heritage listed former winery at Serisier Road, Leslie located just outside Warwick in the Southern Downs Region. Established in the 1860's by German immigrants Jacob and Elizabeth Kircher and named after the celebrated wine producing district on the Rhine in Germany, Assmanshausen is today a 45 acre rural property encompassing the original farmhouse, winery and tourist cottage. Both the Winery and residence have considerable aesthetic appeal. The house circa 1867 with it's early form, wide verandahs, fine cedar joinery, red roof and white chimneys is set amid a garden of mature trees and shrubs is a local landmark. The Winery has an aesthetic appeal brought about by the rusticity of the dressed sandstone walls and heavy adzed beams and posts superbly displayed in the underground cellar. A newer addition to 'Assmanshausen ' is Hope Cottage Country Retreat, a self catering fully appointed cottage popular with both domestic and international visitors alike. Surrounding the homestead, Winery and Hope Cottage are various outbuildings including the old store, meathouse, stables for buggy and carriage shed as well as timber cattle yards and state of the art chicken shed with runs.
