About the area:
Nestled into the leafy foothills of Mt Coot-tha, The Gap is handy to all the conveniences and infrastructure that caters to every need of a growing family.
Enoggera Dam, Brisbane's heritage-listed water reservoir dating from 1866, is The Gap's bush water playground and one of Walkabout Creek's leading attractions. On weekends crowds clad in swimmers and bearing all manner of flotation devices from inner tubes to kayaks, jostle for car parks at Walkabout Creek, before winding their way through the short bush trail to the tiny beach.
As well as dropping by for a cooling dip in what would have to be Brisbane's most exclusive swimming spot, recommended is a walk around the reservoir's edge. The Araucaria Track (a 5km circuit) is a splendid easy grade shaded path, suited to all ages, which follows the water's edge and has a few strategically placed benches for a rest with a view.
A visit to the Wildlife Centre is also a must, with one of the best opportunities to get up close to nocturnal animals and view the elusive platypus. And, if not bringing a picnic, the lovely treetop Green Tree Frog Caf makes a great place for a bite to eat, including a buffet breakfast on Sundays.
There are several shopping centres and supermarkets within easy reach along with restaurants, parkland, professional services, sporting facilities (including Ritual HQ, Snap Fitness, The Gap Pony Club & The Gap Health and Racquet Club, Taylor Range Club and the Ashgrove Golf Club), child care centres and private and public primary and secondary schools.
As well as The Gap's excellent local amenities on Waterworks Road, the neighbouring suburb of Ashgrove features the village atmosphere of Ashgrove Avenue & Ashgrove Central shopping centre.
A little further towards the city are Rosalie's brilliant restaurants, cafes and gourmet food outlets, and fashionable Paddington with its restaurants, antique stores, up-market boutiques, variety shopping and entertainment venues.
The Gap State School, Payne Road Primary School and St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary Schools are all located in The Gap and only minutes away are the highly-regarded Ashgrove Marist Boys College, Mater Dei Primary School, Stuartholme and Mount St Michaels Girls Schools
