Regretfully, current, long-term owners of Wilga Vale , are now looking for alternative options for their property.
Covering 406 hectares of undulating limestone and loam soil types, Wilga Vale

has been improved and developed as a profitable mixed farming enterprise since purchased by the present owners in 1982.
This unique property is nestled in a valley on the western falls from Glenlyon Dam. Located on the eastern border of the Goondiwindi Regional Council, the town of Texas is situated 25 km to the north-west on the banks of the Dumaresq River forming the border to New South Wales. A very popular camping and fishing spot with tourists, the population of Texas is just on 1000 people. Services are excellent and include school, child minding centre, hospital with an aged care wing, ambulance and airstrip. GRC provides a library, art gallery, swimming pool and other sporting grounds including football and tennis. The very popular bowling and golf clubs are both community-driven. This very proactive community has now purchased its own community bus. Local businesses provide an environment for a self-sufficient, friendly and safe community.
Sheep and cattle were introduced initially and an 80 sow piggery was established in 1982. The early nineties saw diversification into deer farming of Red, Rusa, Chital and Fallow Deer. Deer graze well with both sheep and cattle and the fencing was changed to 6.5 ft high using Hing-joint. There are a total of 23 paddocks in various sizes and a 40 megalitre dam for water storage, both domestic and stock watering, capable of irrigating 15 hectares of lucerne. The dam is equipped with a Perkins diesel motor and pump and hand shift irrigation pipes with sprinklers. There are 10 stock watering dams and a fully equipped bore to supply piggery, garden and five trough watering points for stock along with a gravity-fed water system for the garden as an alternative from bore water.
Equipment includes a Ford 7000 tractor, disc plough, scarifier, small combine and disc seeder.
Infrastructure also includes cattle yard and loading ramp, calf-marking cradle, sheep yard and two-stand shearing shed, unused piggery consisting of two sheds, two silos, feed bins and mixer, hay shed (48 ft x 36 ft), fowl house and small dam suitable for ducks. Deer handling facilities consist of four rooms and two exterior handling pens, a deer-weighing cage leading to a V-drop floor crush.
The homestead is a high Queenslander, two bedrooms, rumpus room/downstairs surrounded by five acres of garden and lawn, carport and four-bay workshop.
This unique property also supports camping tourism and is currently being used as a hunting property, with pigs, goats, foxes and an extra charge for trophy deer heads. With a developed, trustworthy and honourable clientele, the property has excellent potential to become a first class hunting lodge. The large dam has been stocked with Yellow Belly.
Livestock:
At present the property is running
101 head of mixed cattle plus calves Braford Angus Hereford Cross
43 Dorper cross sheep remaining after de-stocking due to workload.
250 plus deer
24 goats
The Wilga Vale homestead has magnificent views and a tranquility which needs to be experienced first-hand to be fully appreciated.
Looking towards future retirement, the current owners would like to assess interest in the marketplace. Walk-in/walk-out would be preferable but not essential. Interested parties will be given the opportunity to place a tender for purchase or lease or an alternative. The owners would be prepared to remain as caretakers on an agreed-term basis.
All enquiries are welcome.
