Sarina is situated approximately 34 km south of Mackay and has a growing population of approximately 6,000.
Industries include sugar cane, cattle grazing and agricultutre. The area is a major supplier of ethanol through the distillery attached to the Plane Creek Sugar Mill and approximately 15kms to the north is one of the biggest coal distribution terminals in the world. The Jilalan rail depot is also only 5 minutes to the south east of the township.
