A Beautiful, Peaceful Rural Retreat Only 40 minutes* to Brisbane CBD!
A rare surviving part of Pine Mountain Colonial history is 'Stokes Cottage'.
'Stokes Cottage' was built by Edward Stokes for his wife and children after he purchased the land in 1865. It has been lovingly restored and retains the charm and simplicity of early colonial architecture. The property remained in the stokes family for the next 116 years and plays a significant part in the emerging Pine Mountain farming district.
The country church building which is now part of the 'Stokes Cottage' property was built in 1901 at Deep Creek in the Brisbane valley. It was subsequently sold at auction to the current owners who recognised its simple beauty and history.
The granddaughter of one of the craftsmen who built the church later wrote an article for a national magazine titled "the old church in the valley" and wondered what happened after it was auctioned. Well, the answer is that it was carefully rebuilt and restored as a major part of the residence at 54 Stokes Road, Pine Mountain. It features a high cathedral ceiling and mezzanine bedroom while retaining its beautiful church architecture.
