Booeebie was designed and built by architect William Haenke as a residence for his brother Harry Haenke and his family in Newtown in 1926.
Harry owned a menswear store in Bell St. His brother, Mark Haenke, who had emigrated to California in the early 20th Century, sent architectural magazines and periodicals including detailed information on Californian Bungalows back to Will. It was this distinctive style which influenced the design and construction of Ipswich's first reinforced masonry home.
