Last Listing description (May 2019)

You won t believe this position and house site. A totally secluded and sunny oasis is surrounded by a Jurassic rainforest making you wonder if Frodo Baggins might wander by. But it s not isolated with the engaging Mapleton Village just minutes away. This legendary 20 acre holding adjoins the 16,000 acre Mapleton National Park with walking and riding tracks, two waterfalls and Cooloolabine Dam on the famous Blackall range. It is just 25 minutes drive to Maroochydore and Sunshine Coast beaches. Popular Maleny and Montville village are nearby on the range offering an active community of every artisan, craft and other pursuit imaginable. A wonderful community for those who want that engagement.
The land has an open area of around 2 acres under management with the balance natural forest. The Goliath trunk pictured was alleged to be the tallest tree in the forest till it sadly fell in a storm some 10 years ago. It is something sad but remarkable to behold and there are many more giant Blackbutts to take over. There are two small lakes/dams on a small spring fed creek that flows through the property. Water is pumped to the main living site which is elevated high up to ensure cool breezes and good drainage. Fertile and deep topsoil's from the forest linger. The birdlife is diverse and beautiful beyond your imagination. Their calls are the only thing you hear. The other side of the waterway offers an accessible near level area of around two acres which now needs some clearing for any horticulture or animals. This area has a ramshackle one bedroom settlers cottage with a fireplace and verandah that hasn t seen any maintenance for many, many years. The original owner let his brother build this cabin to live peacefully and in solitude in the forest.
The realty of this property is buyers will have choices. A highly energetic and capable handyperson, or better yet tradesperson, can put in a huge effort to fix up whatever home, huts, cottage or studio they choose. Another option is to break down some structures including the A Frame to open up a wonderful level site for a new home. A lot of quality timber would come from the demolition. The studio shown on the floor plan is a solid structure that would be a great asset to the property either way.

The property is off the grid and there is no known affordable option to link to the mains power. Contact the agent for information on an off grid system to provide all your power needs forever, and give the planet a break. The property is priced to reflect the lack of mains power and self-sustained living is achievable here. The entry is a tunnel in the forest and inspections are strictly through the open days and appointments only. The long term tenant on the property is obliging, maintains the property and would be happy to continue to rent there.
The property has several historic features and structures on it. All structures are not council approved. However as existing structures they have a right to be there subject to the prevailing Council regulations.
The property has the following unapproved structures on it. Pictures of each are followed by internal photos.
On the floor plan showing on the link are;
A high set A Frame house with upstairs bedroom & study, bathroom, pot belly fireplace, covered porch, adjoining large carport and workshop. Has previous termite damage and needs other repairs. The bathroom is connected to the functional septic system with new trenches. The house has gas cooking and hot water service. Livable and secure.
A separate high set Studio with timber floors, open plan living, slow combustion burner, large verandah looking into forest and a basic bathroom. Underneath is parking for 1 to 2 small vehicles and storage. Solid structure that needs a little tidying up and bathroom waste needs to be addressed there are options for that.
Not showing on the floorplan on the link are,
A separate multi purpose room accessing the A Frame via a ramp has two walls of full windows but needs re-stumping and other repairs. Very appealing room with lots of light and timber floors. Can be saved with a lot of work rather than a lot of expense.
An old timber hut/shed set on the entry driveway striving to survive in the forest, but doing ok.
The Colonial cottage which was built well enough but has decades of decay to contend with. It has a living room around 6 x 4 meters with a small open bedroom, a mezzanine floor, a fireplace and a covered verandah. It will take a committed and imaginative soul and some money to bring this one back. It might just be the answer for that child that never left home! The current owners didn t even know it was there when they purchased and just stumbled across it one day hidden in the forest. Amazing. It is pictured.
