"Sage Landing was originally a large single residence with stately gardens featuring a number of mature and semi-mature Canary Island Palms. The historic route of the Buderim to Palmwoods Tramway runs along the northern boundary, identified by a stone lined cutting. An overland flow path, identified along the eastern boundary of the site, connected the intermittent stream running through Tom Rickards Park. Each of these elements were considered and incorporated in the landscape plans.
The planning of the site involved creating a drainage reserve along the overland flow path which included linking pedestrian routes from Tom Rickards Park through Sage Landing up to Tulip Lane. This provided continuity to the Buderim Tramway walking track. This drainage reserve was designed to feature a boardwalk, seating platform and establishment of a leafy green rainforest environment as a natural extension of Tom Rickards Park.
Rock from the site was used to add features to the overland flow channel including natural birdbaths and islands. We also provided connectivity to the tramway heritage by re-purposing the stone from the old railway cutting in stone clad pillars and the entry sign wall. We also designed interpretive signage along the walking route.
The landscape design for the streetscape continued the theme of Jacaranda tree planting found along Sage Street to create a future carpet of purple flowers covering the pavements to Sage Landing. A large Canary Island Palm was retained in-situ during the construction of the project and utilised as a feature to the estate entry. A secondary palm was installed to recreate the original Canary Island Palm gateway to the property and pay homage to the site's previous owners.
Private & Intimate Home Landscapes
Having control of the design for the private residential landscape meant that the front landscaping could be used to provide further amenity and cohesion in the presentation of the streetscape. This included implementing a secondary layer of trees in the residences' front yards.
A lush subtropical and native planting pallet provides privacy and intimacy for the compact garden spaces at the side and rear of the homes. Small trees and palms provide shade, while hedging plants offer natural screens between adjoining properties and for the rear fence.
