The Beach House History
The Beach House is situated at 91 Old Burleigh Road in the north in Broadbeach, a mere stone's throw from sandy beaches and the rolling pacific ocean. It is the last standing beach house in Broadbeach and hails from the era which put the gold coast on the map as Australia's premiere tourist destination. it is within walking distance of the Broadbeach world famous restaurant precinct along the beachfront promenade.
Built in the 1930's it was the beach house of Queensland's surveyor general. for a short period it served as the Broadbeach surf club. during the 1970's the beach house was home to an SP bookie operation run by the notorious bag man Jack Herbert who turned state's evidence at the Fitzgerald inquiry into official corruption in the years of the Bjelke-Petersen government. Acquired by prominent surfers paradise lawyer Michael Elliot for redevelopment in the late 1970s through development company overlord traders pty ltd the beach house was saved by the smith family in 1985. lovingly restored by the gold coasts most flamboyant aldermen Kerry smith and her husband Clinton the beach house is a reminder of halcyon days past and the reverie of the 60's pyjama parties, Jonny O'Keefe and rock and roll.
The Beach House Guest House:
'Guests will enter the beach house through a latch gate over hand painted Italian mosaic tiles which has a parcel seat which accommodates 3 people. The gate is electrified and is accessed by a code for the guests' safety and privacy.
Upon entering the property guests will cross a grass court yard boarded by white picket fence, an 8 foot hedge and scented garden and then trip over three large stepping stones which are a part of a Balinese water feature stretching the full breadth of the house which contains 3 flood lit fountains.
The beach house is surrounded by large sweeping verandas' on two sides upon which guests can sit, converse, dine and if desired catch a snooze on a day bed in the cool with wafting breezes from the south pacific.
Entry to the house proper is through French doors immediately into the lounge room, followed by the formal dining room. The formal living area flows through to a private internal Tuscan garden which is served from a French provincial galley kitchen fully equipped for those who like to cook.
In the summer the beach house is naturally cool with 10 foot ceiling in the ground floor bedrooms. All rooms have wooden hopper windows to catch the prevailing sea breezes. On the rare day when the air is still guests can enjoy the comfort of air conditioning in their rooms. In the winter the beach house is serviced by two working fire places, an open fire place in the main lounge room with a smaller Victorian fire place with hand painted faux mantel piece and surround in the master bedroom.
On cold winter nights the rain plays its tune on the Queensland tin roof while guests are snug and warm in front of the dancing fire.

The Tuscan garden is covered by the canopy of a large cotton tree, it filters the hot summer sun and allows dappled soft light to poor down upon guests without them getting burnt and is fully lit with soft mood lighting for casual evening dining.
If preferred, you can dine on the open veranda to the front of the property, and listen to the cascading fountains while watching the passing parade. Of an evening the Balinese pond is flood lit which gives a soft blue hue.
Step back into the history of the true gold coast.
