Last Listing description (September 2019)

One of only a select few properties which enjoy this spectacular privileged location which captures the very essence of oceanfront living.

A uniquely distinguished A-Frame home which has a personality all of its own. Occupying three levels which fully capitalise on the seafront outlook.

The main residence has 3 bedrooms, plus a ground level granny flat or guests quarters. Whilst outdoors you can relax by resort style pool.

A rare and exclusive property providing a variety of lifestyle options, including picnics on the park or strolls along the foreshore taking in the spectacular sunsets.

""There can be few people in Darwin who don't know the "A-Frame House" on Sunset Park. It's not unknown for visitors from interstate to knock on the door and ask if they can take a look at it because they've heard about it on the property grapevine. But few know of its story or why it has, since it was first built in 1976, been of such interest.

After Cyclone Tracy in 1974, the road along the beach in Nightcliff was "interrupted" and Banksia Street became an oddity joining Progress Drive and Casuarina Drive -something that still confuses taxi drivers today! The area where the beach road no longer ran became parkland, later named Sunset Park because of the wonderful views it offers across the sea at sunset.

Just five lots remained on Sunset Park, fronting Banksia Street, and then architect and town planner Cedric Patterson bought two of them, on-selling on to fund the building of his "great design: the A-frame House", which he believed would not be lifted up by the strong winds that had caused so much devastation when Tracy visited, but would instead be pressed towards the ground, maintaining its stability. He was right. Those who have lived in the house talk about how immovable it feels in strong winds.

Over the years, the original shingle roof - much loved by the cockatoos who would pick at it noisily all day and night - was replaced by colorbond and two new bathrooms were added, including one serving a modest granny flat under the main house.

The current owner has set about bringing the house back to its former glory- from the new balconies, the views across the park of the sea and sunset are unmatchable."
