Last Listing description (August 2022)

Have you ever wanted to buy your very own church?

The time is nigh

Built in 1862 The Wesleyan Chapel is double brick construction with a beautiful steep roof line.

Graves have family names such as Warmsley & Davies - long held names in the district.
Internally the floors are hardwood and would polish up beautifully. The pulpit is still intact and some of the pews are still there.

The church was begun by John Wesley. Some of the very earliest settlers along the Yass River became ardent supporters of the movement and seem to have formed their own strong community groups, both there and at Nanima.

An early 1847 sketch map of the river shows the small, unregistered holdings of Noah Davies who arrived in NSW in 1838 and William Armstrong in 1839 - both free immigrants. (Yass Tribune, 2019). The chapel is a popular subject for artists and photographers because of its design, notably its fine proportions; The chapel provides tangible evidence of Wesleyan Methodist faith which is an important aspect of the region's cultural history.

In the past the chapel was one of the most important in the locality and served as a place for Wesleyan Methodist worship since the 1860s, during which time many social and religious events have been conducted within its walls.
