The cottage's open-plan lounge, dining, kitchen area and the main bedroom are north-facing for excellent light and views throughout the day. Constructed of Western Red Cedar weatherboards clad in stylish galvanised corrugated steel with thick exterior Merbau timber surrounds to the windows, the cottage is well-insulated and has excellent flow-through ventilation throughout the house in the summer months.

The interiors are painted in neutral colours with an updated bathroom, laundry area, and kitchen with stainless steel appliances. Low-wattage ceiling-mounted downlights are integrated into all rooms.

Ducted LPG gas heating throughout the house with an automatic thermostat and an efficient slow-burning Eureka wood stove in the living area keep the house as warm as desired during the winter months.

STUDIO (24sqm)
The custom-designed timber studio near the house is reached by stone steps in the midst of an informal native garden planted to provide screening and privacy between the two structures. This studio has been designed to accommodate alternative uses as an artist's painting/drawing retreat, a consultancy or home business office.

Solid white-painted timber wall panelling graces the cathedral-ceiling interior with flush-mounted downlights throughout, together with custom Western Red Cedar windows, window screens, and doors, and a limed-finish Tasmanian Oak solid timber floor. A craftsman-fabricated, oiled timber counter unit with hand-fabricated stainless steel sink accommodates a small refrigerator and microwave.

The large exterior under-cover expanse of the concrete slab on the south side of the studio provides an indoor/outdoor workspace with covered workbench and rainwater tank with lockable equipment storage underneath. This space is easily convertible to an outdoor living or patio area with a shaded dining table for alfresco eating and lounging on warm summer evenings.

Solid timber weatherboard-clad cupboard doors open onto this patio space and lock into place, providing extensive storage for artist studio materials or shelving for entertaining, depending on the owner's use of the space. This shelved area has been plumbed for an outdoor stainless steel sink, if desired by future owners. Sculptural stainless steel hinges, drop bolts, and door closures have been hand-fabricated for these doors and the adjacent wall-integrated electrical cabinet.

The separate timber structure off the ensuite forming the southwest corner of this outdoor living space provides amenity both for the studio occupant as well as for outdoor living uses without the need to enter the studio space itself. This European-style timber ensuite with integrated shower has a high-quality toilet pan, artist-designed and fabricated stainless steel basin assembly, high-quality door hardware, and special wall and floor tiling accented with artist-fabricated stainless steel tiles.

WORKSHOP (132sqm)
Well-separated from the house and studio at the northern end of the property, the custom-designed, corrugated galvanised steel workshop is located at the southeast corner of the property. The workshop has wonderful views into the mature eucalypt forest which occupies the site's eastern boundary and toward the large dam and island, surrounded by reeds and occupied by resident native ducks, water hens, and golden perch which were introduced by the current owners into the dam over a decade ago.

The workshop was designed to accommodate large-scale metal and timber fabrication of sculpture and custom-designed objects, and would easily meet the needs of craftspeople, artists, or hobbyists of all persuasions. The workshop is wired with 3-phase and single-phase power and has 3-metre-high roller doors on all four sides to provide ample ventilation and changing configurations.
