Built in the 1850s on a dairy farm at nearby Terara, the sandstone and weatherboard house was moved block by block to its current location in Numbaa in about 1912 and has changed ownership only twice since.

The current owners purchased the property in 2003 and have sensitively renovated the gracious historic home to bring it into the 21st century. All floors and all but the hallway ceiling have been replaced and the home has been completely rewired, with all new plumbing, storm water and sewer, and a new Zincalume roof added in 2015.


Say the current owners, "The house had 90% of paint removed from the external stonework and local stonemason Brett Hofman tuck-pointed the joints and built the new stonework at the master bedroom and entry plus all external stairs. The internal brickwork and blockwork was also repointed. The floors are Lyon French Oak in the hallways, glued down over a 3mm acoustic rubber underlay, with Marmoleum tiles in the kitchen and luxury vinyl tiles in the laundry and bathrooms. The family room, bedrooms and home office have all been carpeted with additional insulation beneath."

The owners also built a new two-storey triple-car garage in hand-bolstered blocks with a spacious studio above with bathroom and kitchenette.

Set in park-like grounds with mature trees, three sheds and a chicken coop, the house features a high-ceilinged entry hallway with a light-filled eat-in country-style kitchen and living area and a family room with ornate fireplace to one side, and three bedrooms, a dedicated home office with built-in desks and the main bathroom and laundry to the other.

The kitchen includes a walk-in pantry and opens out to a covered entertaining deck with uninterrupted views to Cambewarra Mountain and Coolangatta Mountain. The main bedroom features a separate dressing room and en suite bathroom, while a further two bedrooms feature built-in robes.

"We've really enjoyed the privacy and quiet here, the lovely views, the pleasure of seeing both sunrise and sunset and sitting by the firepit of an evening in the garden," say the owners. "You feel like you are in a different world here but it's only a 10 minute drive to Nowra or to Greenwell Point for fish and chips and fresh oysters and we love to catch the punt over to Comerong Island and have Seven Mile Beach all to ourselves."
