It was he, along with Fred Mann of Yengo who planted the liquid ambers and pink cherries along Queens Avenue which were often referred to as 'The chief Glory of Mount Wilson'
Holman retained the consolidated estate until his death in 1934, having further developed the grounds and gardens of both properties.
The estate was then acquired by Margaret Terpenning who rebuilt David Halls original house.
The original ornate coffered 1930's ceiling, timber floors and sash windows still exist at Eastcote House.
From 1945 to 2015 Eastcote was owned by relatives of the Lee-Smith and Cunningham families.
The original heritage house was extensively restored and extended to an extraordinary standard in 2005 by John Cunningham, the single largest benefactor to the art gallery of new south wales.
Cunningham also commissioned much of the terracing and embankment work in the gardens which are featured in the book 'disobedient gardens: Landscapes of Contrast and Contradiction'
So, this stunning home is being offered to the market again, the attention to detail and craftsmanship is breath-taking. There has been no expense spared in the restoration and extension of Eastcote by John Cunningham.
The original house has been meticulously restored, mullioned sash windows, a beautiful coffered ceiling in the main living room and a stunning fireplace all work together to create such a feeling of elegance that is rarely experienced.
This room opens to a magnificent sunroom, with a Lupi Cape Cod freestanding slow combustion wood heater, and floor to ceiling steel and glass sliding doors that disappear to allow clear access to the large terrace that looks east towards Sydney.
Views like this are rare in Mount Wilson, imagine being able to watch the new years fireworks from your own elegant terrace, the cool mountain breezes, a glass of champagne, just perfect!
Adjoining these rooms and still part of the original house are two large bedrooms with their own bathrooms, a book lined corridor and an oversized linen closet that begs to be filled with bedding and towels from around the world!
The most impressive extensions blend seamlessly with the original house, this area comprises of an soaring two story entry vestibule with a wide elegant staircase that leads you to the upper level landing to find a bathroom of almost Baronial proportions that is easily matched by the vast master bedroom that looks east to the views.
There are also two more bedrooms on this level, both oversized and with their own bathrooms as well.
No embarrassing hallway dashes here, your guests will just appear, looking immaculate and ready for whatever entertainment is on offer.
Head downstairs again to find an ample dining room (again looking to the view) that directly adjoins the formal living and the sunroom and the semi commercial kitchen.
Again, detail abounds, the floor boards in the extension are milled to match the dimensions of the original boards in the old house, the windows are again the same style and dimensions of the original house.
A circular driveway takes you past the main entrance to the double garage with a wine cellar and just in case you need it, there is a chauffers quarters tucked into the roofline of the garage!
Set on 1.4 Hectares of terraced gardens Eastcote is that perfect size, not too large, with a considerable portion of the land being virgin rainforest that will look after itself, but also you have stunning basalt terraced gardens with almost every European cold climate plant you can imagine.
Garden rooms abound, sunny sheltered spots for reading, cathedral like spaces under massive oak trees, mysterious winding walks lined with masses of bulbs in spring.
Eastcote is a unique and rare offering, many properties of this ilk in the area need extensive and expensive repatriation work, both the house and the gardens, but Eastcote has been lovingly restored and extended with no expense spared, and you, the next owner will reap the rewards.
