This is a home that has to be inspected to be appreciated, so please contact our team to discuss the price guide and arrange your viewing. A more detailed description about the home below:

The Past
A home of historical significance Trialba was designed by renowned Newcastle architect Ted Merewether, grandson of E.C Merewether and the suburbs namesake, while he was still a student of architecture at Sydney Technical College and is a very rare example of his early work. Commissioned by C.M Ranclaud, an influential man in Newcastle, Merewether and with the A.A. Company, the property originally sat on a one-acre parcel of land, which was later subdivided. Ranclaud lived there from the date of Trialbas construction with his wife and six children until his death in 1932. C.M. Ranclaud is of course the name behind Ranclaud Street, which is located at the propertys rear boundary.

During the 1940s Trialba became a guest house or boarding house and by the late 1940s was used exclusively for the accommodation of female tenants.
It is not presently known at what time Trialba ceased to be a boarding house however the property was bought just before the year 2000 and underwent a substantial restoration, which included reinstatement of the infilled verandahs. The restoration was of such high quality that the existing owners, who bought the property in 2007, have needed to do very little to maintain it in its current condition.

The Present
Occupying a bumper 1,252sqm landholding, Trialba is designed in a Federation filigree style with a curvilinear Art-Nouveau timber ornament above the entry from Frederick Street. Dramatic beneath ornate ceilings, a series of entertaining and family rooms revolve around the grand entrance hallway with its timber floors, arches and corbels. Banks of French doors bring you out to upper and lower level verandahs where you can enjoy the sea breeze and the privacy of the homes beautiful evergreen gardens. The substantial timber kitchen hosts quality appointments and gas cooking. King sized and beautifully detailed, the five bedrooms and home office share two bathrooms including a master bedroom suite that features a walk-in robe and ensuite with claw foot bath. Flawlessly detailed, this impeccable residence features six undercover car spaces including a triple remote garage with third bathroom, while its blue-ribbon location is just a few short steps from the sand and surf of Merewether beach, its iconic ocean baths and Surfhouse bar and restaurant.

The Future
Allowing its new owners to fully capitalise on a premium parcel in a premier, blue-chip location, Trialbas current owners, in conjunction with respected firm, EJE Architecture, have developed concept plans to build a second dwelling on the site of the existing garage structure. Subject to approval from Newcastle City Council, the potential to own two substantial homes on a subdivided block in a suburb experiencing exceptional capital growth presents an incredible opportunity for property developers, prestige builders and families alike with its size, location and history.
