Artisan-built House With Stunning Views Of Kangaroo Valley
Situated in one of the finest positions in beautiful Kangaroo Valley, between Berry and Bowral on the South Coast of New South Wales, this artisan-built house is designed for indoor/outdoor living with stunning views across a shimmering dam to rugged escarpments beyond. Located up a gentle, winding road above Kangaroo Valley township, the handcrafted house set in terraced Mediterranean-style gardens, features a light-filled lower level punctuated by rugged beams from an old Sydney wool store, open plan kitchen, dining and living areas with terrazzo flooring, bathroom, office, and storeroom. The vividly painted stairwell leads up to two double bedrooms separated by a casual living area, a walk-through dressing room and bathroom, all opening to a wide tiled deck. A covered barbecue area in the gardens is ideal for casual entertaining and relaxation while a spacious separate building, currently an artist???s studio, would be ideal for any home-based occupation or separate accommodation.
THE PROPERTY STORY

Perched on a steep hillside with stunning views across Kangaroo Valley, this beautiful, light-filled home was designed and constructed by its current owners, a Spanish-born artist and an artisan builder.
The couple purchased the one-hectare property, accessed by a beautiful, gentle drive uphill from the valley floor, in 1999 after several years of living in Kangaroo Valley village while searching for their ideal block of land. The steep site was steadily ???sculpted??? into several levels with a dam and terraces reinforced with stone walls. An artist???s studio was constructed on the level above the dam, and slowly grew into the current house, with a separate studio now lying within easy walk of the main dwelling.
The house, which sits among striking Mediterranean style terraced gardens, features rugged beams from an old Sydney wharf which punctuate and add texture to the open plan spaces with travertine floors on the lower level. On this level, facing a terrace with tinkling fountain running down to the dam below, there is a spacious kitchen, formal and informal living areas, dining area, bathroom, office, and storeroom. A striking stairwell in shades of citrus and cyclamen inspired by the work of famed Mexican architect Luis Barragan, leads upstairs to two bedrooms separated by a casual sitting room, a spacious walk-through dressing room and bathroom all opening to a wide deck.
Set in the grounds, a covered barbecue pavilion with built-in bench seating spread with cushions is a favoured spot for casual entertaining or an afternoon rest with a good book.
???It???s been a joy to live here,??? say the owners. ???We???re above the fog that so often sits on the valley floor and it???s so peaceful here yet we are so close to town with permanent access. There are no visible neighbours and the view is constantly changing with the light and weather.???
This inspiring property would make a wonderful full-time residence or weekender with the large studio offering potential as a home workplace or separate accommodation for teenagers, an elderly parent or holiday rental.
