Last Listing description (March 2010)

'Arrilla' Cottage
Named after an Aboriginal legendary character that features in stories about the the surrounding sea mountains, 'Arrilla' cottage is a fully restored miners cottage in the coastal village of Helensburgh. Constructed as early as the late 1890's during the advent of coal mining in Camp Gully, a cottage so well maintained and improved is a rarity in the area.
Without detracting from its original character and charm, the cottage has been transformed to promote modern living. The kitchen and bathroom are new as well as internal linings and polished timber floors. A large wrap-around deck in the backyard accessed via large sliding doors creates a great entertaining area and a connection to the established gardens.

The yard wraps around all sides of the cottage providing a private position amongst a well landscaped setting with elements of yesteryear. A tortured willow and large gum provide a shady lawn on one side of the house and the sun-drenched backyard contains original lemon tree and herb garden. A crushed-rock driveway on the other side of the house leads to a double carport and large shed that could be transformed to suit other uses. Original sandstone piers and paving stones have been recycled as garden borders throughout.
A short drive along Otford Road will lead you to Bald Hill, Royal National Park, Stanwell Park, local beaches and the many cafes and tourist attractions (e.g. seacliff bridge) the local coastal villages have to offer.
