In this area the soil type is a rich black basalt soil which is always very rewarding when it comes to producing grain or fodder crops. This area is renowned for growing 2 tonne to the acre barley crops and with the cooler summer it will produce 2 to 4 tonne per acre sorghum. It very rarely has a failure. There are oats there presently that are waist deep. There are 1200 acres of oats planted at the moment with 2,000 head of cattle on it and they are hardly making a mark on it.
Water
Water on ?Burmah? is never a problem. There are 7 bores and each bore has a back up system to make sure you never run low on water. On the grassed areas there is running springs that flow all year around. Large concrete tanks are placed around the property on high points to gravity feed watering points. All paddocks have a water trough on 2 sides of the paddock to stop your stock from walking too far for water.
