Historic Peppercorn Cottage in Gerringong, South Coast, NSW is up for auction. This 153 year old home is said to be the oldest remaining home in Gerringong after a fire burned down much of the township in 1872.
Set on the ridge above boat harbour in the main street the home was originally built by J B Taylor for Mrs Margaret Campbell and her two daughters after Margaret s husband Ewan died in 1864.
In 1967 the home was sold to Alan & Marjorie Patterson who lovingly restored the dilapidated cottage after Alan, who was an architect, said we cannot let this Colonial building be bulldozed down . The house was named Peppercorn Cottage by Alan and Marjorie as the land it was built on had an old form of title called a Peppercorn Title.
