History
Beneree Public School was built between 1878 - 1879 by J W Ashworth at a cost of 880 Pounds.

Constructed of bricks made on site it comprised the school-room and teachers residence - the current study, bedroom, library and pantry.

The first teacher was appointed in February 1880. The school room was extended again in 1880 due to the growth of miners and free settlers moving to the area. If you look at the change in brick work near the door leading to the bedrooms you can see where this occurred. A large kitchen (now the family room) was added in 1891.

Many of the larger trees around the property were planted by students to commemorate significant occasions and events. The pine trees leading up to the house were planted to mark Federation. The pine trees in the front were to commemorate World War 2. In Spring the lawns and gardens are awash with bulbs, the legacy of many gardens.

Beneree Public School closed in February 1941 and has since been a private residence.
