Named after the source of the bricks from a de-commissioned brick kiln, the house has a warmth and character that only reclaimed materials can bring to a space.

The exposed bricks are complemented by a contemporary, simple palette of materials and textures; crisp white sheeting; burnt Blackbutt; dark zinc exterior cladding; & spotted gum timber floors throughout the main living spaces.

The designer, Michaela Moore, principal of Moore Design has created a wonderfully simple plan. Entry is into the heart of the house, to the right is the living room and to the left is the kitchen and dining. From which, huge ceiling-to-floor sliding doors open to the North facing rear deck and large level lawn of the 710.8 sq m block. Outdoor living includes a built-in outdoor fire, ensuring evenings on the deck throughout the year.

The voluminous raked ceilings (3m rising to 4m) of the main living spaces create a wonderful sense of space. The large clerestory window in the kitchen/dining captures and frames the 'big sky' tree-lined view. And the vast window of the living room draws in the beautiful skies at dusk and the majesty of the night sky.

Housed in the striking zinc clad forms, the bedrooms form the two wings of the house, one for parents and one for children and guests. Comfort is guaranteed by ceiling fans, carpet and insect screened louvres.
