This zone applies to approximately 4% of the land in the Shire, generally located in the immediate surrounds of the villages and Jindabyne. This zone provides for residential housing in a rural setting while preserving and minimising impacts on environmentally sensitive locations and scenic quality. The zone generally provides a buffer between urban development and broad acre rural and environmental areas. Extensive agriculture and home occupations are permitted without consent in the zone. All other land uses that are not included as permitted with consent" are prohibited in the R5 Large Lot Residential zone including commercial premises, residential accommodation (other than that included as permitted with consent), rural industries and tourist and visitor accommodation.
