COUNTRY: Comprises a good balance of level to gently sloping chocolate & red loams varying to a small area of lighter sandy country to the south. The property comprises 1000ha of cultivation, being mainly gently undulating to parts level, with soils varying from heavy chocolate loams in the north with the odd stone patches through to red/brown sandy loams & brown clays with areas of heavy black creek flats. Cultivation areas have been well contoured with mainly large farm over banks. Originally timbered with brigalow, belah, gum, box & some pine. EXTRACTIVE RESOURCES: 'Strathdarr' has it's own rubble quarry at the front of the property & clean sand deposits in parts of the Rocky Hole Creek, which are used on the property.
RAINFALL: Approx. 600-650mm p.a. This district is considered a safe rainfall area, & rarely misses growing a winter or summer crop.
FENCING: Generally the fencing is good & comprises timber strainers & steel posts with 5/6 wires. There is also some older netting. Significant use has been made of electric fencing. All paddocks have access to water.
WATER: The quality of the underground water on 'Strathdarr' is second to none. Extracted from a sandstone layer, it is of exceptional potable quality & used in all application, including drinking water on the property. Irrigation water is supplied from bores or water harvesting. Stock & domestic water is primarily from a bore at the hose (30 metres) & other stock water is provided by 5 bores, with 3 equipped (2 electric pumps & 1 submersible pump). The outlying bores are approx. 40m to 70m deep. There are also 7 dams of varying sizes as well as the 250 megalitre irrigation dam.
IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT: 'Strathdarr' has one 90ha centre pivot irrigation field. The pivot is approx. 540m in length & comprises 11 spans. It is a quality electric Reinke unit of aluminum construction & approx. 11 years old. Water is supplied from a bore & from harvesting of the irrigation dam. There is a turkey nest dam just south of the pivot where a pump provides pressure to the pivot. This adjoins a larger 250 megalitre dam that catches unregulated water from Rocky Hole Creek. The centre pivot & dam pump is powered by a diesel Cummins motor & the main bore pump engine is a diesel John Deere. The 32ha of flume irrigation was originally developed in 1995/6. It was designed by SMK from Moree & has been surveyed to retain & reuse all tail water. The system uses a china pump powered by a Perkins diesel motor.
WATER LICENCES: 486 megalitre Aquifer, Eastern Recharge Groundwater. 6.5megalitre Stock & Domestic, Gil Gil Creek. 75megalitre Unregulated river, Gil Gil Creek.
