The second Sharkey Beach is often used by locals to walk their dogs off the leash, surfers, fly fishing enthusiasts, and by kids exploring numerous tidal rock pools. In between the two beaches there is a large rock pool, used by swimmers throughout the year.

Every fourth Sunday of the month the school becomes a host to popular Coledale Market with its brick-a-brac, food and local produce stalls.
In the hub of Coledale village you will find an RSL club with excellent selection of meals and beverages at very reasonable prices. There is also a newsagency/grocery store, video hire, take away pizza, hairdresser and antique shop. There are also two cafes, with 'Chedo s' well known for it s fine cuisine and excellent coffee, conveniently located next door to 'Fine Wines' bottle shop.
The train station is conveniently located for commuters to Sydney (approximately 1 hr 10 mins), and Wollongong (approximately 30 mins). Two minutes down the road there is Austinmer with more cafes and a beautiful beach. Two minutes further south is Thirroul, with numerous boutiques, two supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and two beaches.
