St Jude s! The Little Church on the Hill; circa 1918
St Jude s! The Little Church on the Hill; circa 1918
St Jude s was on the market a while ago but is now back and has been price reduced as to sell.

Set upon half an acre on flood free rise , it has virtual 360 degree aspect and outlook over rural lands and it has the feeling that you own all of it.
By accident or design; I don t know, but the choosing of this location for the church was breathtakingly perfect. And breathtaking it is, in its outlook in virtually every direction, over rural lands with a backdrop of bushland and sandstone escarpments.
A bit of history:-
A certain Henry Fleming settled in the Macdonald Valley in early 1816. Ultimately his holdings ended up in the hands of his eldest son Joseph, but later, with his other three sons, John, Henry and George. It was George, who in 1869 sold to the Bishop of Newcastle, for 10 shillings, the two roods (half acre) that the church now sits on.
This church was built in 1918, but there was a structure which predates it.
Rev. Joseph Anthony Baoke became the first minister here in 1876.
He is buried on the site, as is George Fleming. There are seven known heritage protected graves in the small cemetery and it was only used between the years of about 1883 to 1904.
The church was still being used occasionally for services right up to the 1970 s.
It is constructed of random stone and mortar and is rendered. It has stood the test of these ninety one years and has been lovingly cared for the last eighteen years by the present owners Margaret and Phillip. During their tenure they have diligently taken responsibility for a lot of restoration and undertaken the respectful guardianship of the souls resting here.
During their time Margaret and Phillip have embarked on a blistering schedule of entertaining and hosting; some being major events; notably, two family weddings. Apart from this, historians, genealogists, interested people, etc have dropped in and have met with a marvellous reception.
The reason I mention this aspect is, without exception, all those people, and I include myself, as I have been so fortunate to attend socially, feel, and have expressed, that there is an air of calm and peace here which hangs over the setting like a protective mantle.
It has been put by a few, that they have felt a wonderfully benign presence here.
So, come and see for yourself
