This is an exemplar rural retreat, a compelling place of sophisticated simplicity, in a setting that takes the breath away.
The architect designed dwellings nestle in the surrounding bush, organic building materials enhancing the connection to the natural setting. On approach, the modest facade gives few clues to the beauty within and beyond. In this modernist home, timber, copper and glass are used to create an earthy, robust interior, a glorious warm space with vaulted ceilings and wood-burning fireplaces. An expansive wall of north-facing windows frames mesmerising views of valley and mountain.
This is a supremely peaceful place, totally in harmony with a landscape of bewitching beauty.

Whiskers Hill was for thirty-seven years the haven of internationally renowned geologist, John Ferguson. This tranquil retreat on the Molonglo River affords spectacular views of mountain and plain and shelters abundant wild-life. John recorded 164 species of birds in this park-like setting - and particularly revelled in the annual return of nesting peregrine falcons. Below the house, rocky outcrops dam the river to form an extensive swimming hole, and at the end of a summers day, a cooling sea breeze comes in from the east. Later, when you gaze into the spectacular night sky, it is hard to believe that city lights are only a 25 minute drive away. No wonder John couldn't believe his luck when he found this haven all those years ago.
